TIPS
imageA growing trend in many countries is the tighter regulation of discharged wastewater quality and volumes. This has led to increased treatment of all wastewater streams (municipal and industrial) as well as, in certain regions, the growth of wastewater reuse. Historically, sewage had been discharged into surface water bodies with increasing levels of treatment being applied over time in order to minimize damage to the waters that also acted as drinking water sources to neighboring communities. Nearly all sewage treatment plants treat biologically with some form of conventional activated sludge (secondary treatment). While this is still acceptable practice for many plants, it has been found to be insufficient in certain locales due to a multitude of reasons. These sensitive areas require further filtration (tertiary filtration) to reduce wastewater constituents to acceptable level or to reuse the wastewater as a source for irrigation, to recharge aquifers, for industrial purposes, or even for drinking water.

Scinor SMT600 membranes are ideal for tertiary wastewater treatment as they remove total suspended solids (TSS) to non-detect levels, turbidity to less than 0.1 ntu, and combined with upstream coagulation can reduce Phosphorus levels to meet even tomorrow’s tougher regulations. In addition, municipalities are increasingly utilizing membranes to treat the backwash from sand filters, multimedia filters, or membrane plants to prevent concentrated solids from polluting water sources. With Scinor’s advanced Thermally Induced Phase Separation (TIPS) PVDF membranes, end-users can expect higher fluxes and longer life compared to any membrane in the market. This makes Scinor membranes the most cost-effective – capital costs and operational costs - filtration available.
